So, the latest Nintendo Direct has been and gone and as usual, it didn’t disappoint. Nintendo had a lot to say about upcoming games for the 3DS and Switch, although interestingly, most of them were ports. Perhaps saving the real goods for around E3 time! But what we did get was certainly nothing to sneeze at. Here are a few highlights!
Super Smash Bros.
Nintendo is releasing a Super Smash Bros. game for Nintendo Switch in 2018. Complete with Inklings from Splatoon and Link’s Breath of the Wild incarnation! It’s been four years since the last Smash Bros. for Wii U, so whether this is a new title or an updated port similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is up in the air at this stage.
The classic Zelda-like adventure from the now defunct Clover Studios is coming to Switch. It’s been ported around a lot lately, so it isn’t a huge surprise, but it’s still great to see. It has an expected release date of some time during winter in Australia.
The indie darling from Toby Fox is heading to Switch! It’s exciting to see it receiving such positive attention and getting ports, with it previously having hit the PS4 and Playstation Vita. Whether it’ll receive extra content like the Sony versions have, though, is unknown at this point. It currently has no release window.
Splatoon 2 Update
Splatoon 2 is getting a huge 3.0 update for absolutely free, coming in late April 2018! This update is likely to pave the way for the games first expansion, arriving some time in winter for Australia in 2018. The free update is going to bring loads of new gear, a new map and a new rank. The DLC, on the other hand, is going to have a completely new story mode with 80 stages!
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Making sure to establish the Switch as a console that can still be seen as ‘adult’, the crude game and all its DLC will be making its way to the Switch in April. The DLC will be separate, able to be purchased individually or with a season pass.
The "Solaire of Astora" amiibo is scheduled for launch.

Dark Souls Amiibo
As you can see above, Solaire of Astora from Dark Souls is getting his very own amiibo to celebrate the release of Dark Souls Remastered! Praise the sun!
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Following a period of rumors, it’s been officially announced that Crash is coming to Switch with the game being available to buy on July 10th!
The brave little Toad we came to love is also heading to Switch. Not just a straight port, the game will include Super Mario Odyssy themed levels as well as couch co-op function with the joy-cons so you can play at home with a buddy! It’s slated for a July 13 release.
The mysterious Switch RPG finally has a release date, coming out July 13! The special edition for the game was also announce, complete with soundtrack CD and possibly one of the coolest pieces of merch I’ve ever seen, a little pop-up book diorama of the game.
Luigi’s Mansion 3DS
The classic Gamecube title is receiving a port for the 3DS in 2018. The game is a straight port for the most part, but it’s also receiving a boss rush mode, and a map of the mansion will be displayed at all times on the bottom screen.
Wario Ware Inc. Gold
Wario Ware, a personal favourite of mine, is heading to the 3DS with a ‘best of’ installment. Sort of like the Mario Party best of, Wario Ware Inc. Gold will feature 300 of the series best microgames as well as a few updated looks for the cast.
