D23 Brings The Goods, And A Kingdom Hearts 3 Release Window

For those not in the know, D23 is an official Disney event where they bring all their big titles to the floor, showing off what they have for the future. The big draw cards, naturally, are things like Star Wars and the various Marvel movies, which are super cool but also not video games. So instead I’m here to talk about what I felt was perhaps the most exciting news shown off so far, the release of a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3.

The trailer goes through worlds we’ve already seen before bringing us the absolutely mind blowing news that Toy Story is going to be a new world featured in the game. Sora, Goofy and Donald come out with a super cute toy-based new look, talk about the scourge of the Heartless with Woody and the gang before jumping right into the gameplay.

Sora, alongside Woody and Buzz, take on a variety of Heartless, and Sora gets all kinds of new toys and abilities that seamlessly blend into the gameplay to make an absolutely gorgeous and incredibly fun looking show of combat. Not to mention being tiny brings an amazing life to the world as we see Andy’s absolutely massive house in the background while Sora fights in the driveway and on the front lawn.

We then move to a toy store where Sora gets to fight huge mech toys and even control them for short periods of time. Amazing!

The world of Toy Story joins pretty good company in the Kingdom Hearts 3 world, with Tangled and Big Hero 6 having previously been announced, along with classics like the Colosseum from Hercules. But perhaps what’s most exciting is finally having a release date window for the game, with the trailer telling us to expect it for release in 2018.

Another fun, still at least kind of video games related piece of info that came from D23 is some new and exciting Wreck It Ralph 2 news. That is, Disney Princesses, voiced by their original actresses, will make an appearance in the film. That means all the way from Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle in Beauty and the Beast, all the way through to Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana from, well, Moana, will make an appearance in the new film taking the video game characters through to the world of the modern day social media based internet.
