EA Play has started the E3 festivities, including a long, live section of gameplay from Star Wars Battlefront II’s multiplayer mode.
Janina Gavankar was on stage at the start of the presentation to reveal some cool new details, such as the ability to play couch co-op again this time around!
We only saw a small portion of the main storyline, but it was again confirmed the game will be part of the official Star Wars canon, though the multiplayer will very much not be.

Multiplayer will once again allow players to customise their loadouts for different classes, with different weapons, gadgets and skills shown in action.
Perhaps more excitingly, heroes will be much more common this time, leading to more clashes between them. In the trailer above you can see a fight that’s relatively likely, between Rey and Kylo Ren. And a fight that’s not happened in the canon, between Yoda and Darth Maul!
During the live multiplayer session we also got to see Boba Fett, complete with jetpack and rocket barrage. The commentary team said he excels at hunting down and killing other heroes, which makes a lot of sense.
Another neat new feature is the addition of Officers, who can provide buffs and motivation for nearby troopers. Could this be something hero characters like Han can take advantage of as well?
Hope so, because the one time Darth Maul faced Han in the multiplayer match? Han did not fare well.
Yes, not only are all three Star Wars eras represented it’s possible for heroes from different eras to face off in multiplayer. Having Rey fight Darth Maul may drive the canon squad mad, but it should make for better hero variety than the original. There’s only so many times you can fight Luke and Darth Vader on the same map!
We’ll doubtless have more details and trailers later, including the 30-ish minutes of multiplayer gameplay. Until then, let us know in the comments what you think of DICE’s second iteration of Battlefront?
