Relic Entertainment’s latest real time strategy game for the PC, Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 3 now has an official launch date set for the 27th of April. Pre-order extras for the game have been announced in the form of a Masters of War pack which contains special skins for each faction’s elite giant unit. For those who would prefer a physical copy of the game there is the Limited Edition ($64.99 USD) and a Collectors Edition for the tidy sum of $129.99 USD. For those wondering why the Collector’s Edition costs so much more, you get a nifty little hammer with the game.
An upcoming multiplayer beta has been revealed and will take place before the release of the game in April. Pre-ordering doesn’t guarantee access to the beta and the only way to get an invitation is to create a Relic account and join the mailing list. Sign up have closed already but if you missed it there is the possibility of more invitations being sent out. While waiting you can check out Relic’s latest entry in the Fog of War series showcasing the game’s different environments. The team runs through each planet in the game and then describes the art design and aspects of each world.
The Steam page has listed the system requirements and for a 2017 game they seem pretty tame all things considered. Hopefully this is an indication that the game will run smoothly in single and multiplayer when the big battles start. The minimum system requirements also shows that multiplayer will feature 3vs3 battles which seems in line with Dawn of War 2 (but short of the original’s eight player mayhem).

Now as keen as I am to get my grubby hands on Dawn of War 3, there is something grinding my gears and it’s to do with Steam’s regional pricing for Australians. The US Steam Store page currently lists the game’s price as $59.99 (which is fair to assume in US dollars). When I logged in with my Steam account (an Australian location) the listed price becomes $67.99 USD. Hmmm… I know it’s only $8 but WHY?! They wouldn’t have added GST yet as that’s not set to come in until the 1st of July. There is no shortage of alternative online retailers to choose from these days and the game is also available from Humble Bundle’s website, where the price for Dawn of War 3 is a regular $59.99 USD. Has anyone else found some differences in Steam prices for other upcoming releases?
