After 10 years on our screens, the ABC’s Good Game will not be returning in 2017. An official statement from the team says that the smash hit show has been cancelled, in a move that has stunned the industry.
It looks like it’s not just audiences who are reeling at the news – as recently as last week, the Good Game Twitter account was looking forward to the future, while the show’s website posts that new episodes will be “available soon”.
However, today’s news reveals that last December’s Season 10 finale will also serve as the series’ farewell, with the ABC revealing that “two of the key presenters” for the show – confirmed to be Stephanie “Hex” Bendixsen and Nich “NichBoy” Richardson – decided not to return after the summer break.

Younger gaming fans are in luck though – spin-off series Good Game: Spawn Point, which aired on ABC ME, will continue in an unspecified “new format”. Good Game host Steven “Bajo” O’Donnell has confirmed that he, Goose, and robot DARREN will be returning. Cohost Stephanie “Hex” Bendixsen has not revealed her future plans at this stage.
We here at Player Attack are stunned by the news. Rather than “competition”, Good Game was an inspiration to us, an example of how to do things right. We wouldn’t be where we are today without them! The show’s departure leaves a massive hole in the landscape, not just for Australian gaming, but for gaming the world over.
We wish all the team – including everyone behind the scenes – the very best. May you now have the time to play games for fun, and may our paths cross again on the battlefield.
