Amazon has managed to successfully make a delivery via drone, and to make it even more Jetson-y, there was no pilot.
The Amazon Prime Air delivery happened in Cambridgeshire, England, on December 7. The drone flies autonomously and under 400 feet directly from the warehouse to the household.
The program is not available to the public at the moment, but Amazon is hopeful that they will be using it to deliver in “13 minutes” soon.
Being that I am from a very rural town in Virginia (a Southern state), I know two things:
- I won’t be getting drone delivery any time soon
- The first drone that flies through my town will be taken down by a 12 gauge shotgun, probably by my dad who is almost literally Ron Swanson.
It’s a cool program, but I don’t see it being very successful any time soon, but who knows. We put humans on the moon in the 60’s.
