Minecraft certainly has changed a lot over the years. I distinctly remember when the game was in Beta, and just a select few YouTubers were playing it. I also remember playing the free creative mode version. Well, it seems as though the idea for Minecraft is much older than just that.
Shigeru Miyamoto recently did an interview with Glixel in which he revealed that Nintendo had tested very similar concepts back in the days of the N64, saying:
I do like Minecraft, but really more from the perspective of the fact that I really feel like that’s something we should have made. We had actually done a lot of experiments that were similar to that back in the N64 days and we had some designs that were very similar. It’s really impressive to me to see how they’ve been able to take that idea and turn it into a product.
Miyamoto’s next project, Super Mario Run, releases in just a few days, December 15.
