Resident Evil 4 was one of the first games I can remember beating where I felt a real sense of accomplishment. Resident Evil will always hold a dear spot in my heart because of that. So, I have high hopes for next year’s Resident Evil 7, and so does Capcom. The company is hoping that the game will have its best launch this generation.
Speaking with MCV, Capcom EMEA marketing director Antoine Molant has stated that the company hopes for a 4 million unit launch internationally.
Molant says that they use pre-orders as a gauge for what their goals are come launch day.
“Commercially, [Resident Evil 7] is probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines.”
“Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great. Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it’s from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.”
When he was asked about Resident Evil 7 pre-orders, he confidently stated:
“To be very frank, they’re very good.”
“Keeping in mind the real pre-order campaign started a week ago with the Steelbook announcement and some of the Collectors’ Edition announcement… before doing that, they were quite above what we were expecting. We’ve got the previews coming out and some more launching in December. On that front, we’re very happy.”
Resident Evil seems to be one of those game franchises that doesn’t first come to mind when thinking of great games, but once somebody does bring it up, every goes, “Oh yeah! I loved Resident Evil ___.”
Resident Evil 7 is set for launch on January 24 of next year.
