Phoenix Armada, a Korean eSports team in the mobile MOBA Vainglory, has secured the title of World Champions. Korea has, yet again, taken control of another eSport.
Vainglory is a mobile MOBA that pits two teams of three against each other to take down the enemy turrets and, in the end, the enemy’s “Vain Crystal.”
It may sound ridiculous to think about a mobile MOBA being anything great, but it actually is. I play League of Legends, and I had heard about VG, but I never made the effort to play. Finally, I heard about it one more time and I decided I would give it a try.
Let me tell you, it is fantastic. I wouldn’t give free endorsement to a game that I didn’t find to actually be fantastic.
Much like other MOBAs, the game has a lane and a jungle. The three positions work with that map layout. You have your Laner, your Jungler and your Roam, which works much like a support.
I strongly urge you to give the game a try on your Apple or Android device.
Vainglory just had its first World Championship, and pro teams from all of the different server regions came together to battle it out.
It finally came down to the finals: NA’s Team SoloMid (yes, TSM has a Vainglory team) against the Korean powerhouse of Phoenix Armada.
Some amazing games ensued in the best of seven match, with Phoenix Armada taking four games and TSM taking two.
It was incredibly exciting to watch, just as it is exciting to play.
