Spider-Man is undeniably one of the greatest Marvel superheroes, if not one of the greatest heroes of all time. “With great power comes great responsibility” is an idea that has found itself being used in both reality, as well as fiction. Over the years, Spider-Man has changed some, whether he looks like he’s thirty or thirteen, but his core has always stayed the same. The latest iteration of the Web-Head has seen many call backs to classic Spidey, and now, we know of one more.
Spider-Man originally had webbed wings that started at his elbows and ran to his waist. These wings can be seen on the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15, the character’s debut on August 10, 1962.
Well, they will be making their return in the upcoming Spider-Man movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, one of the next movies in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The news comes from Omelette (thanks Collider), who say that there was a short clip from the movie shown at the Comic Con Experience 2016 in Brazil. The movie featured the wings as an upgrade to the suit shown in Captain American: Civil War (Tom Holland’s debut as Spider-Man). Tony made him that suit, so surely he is keeping Spidey updated with whatever tech he needs.
The wings are said to keep with the theme of being both retro and also technological (much like Spider-Man’s eyes in the films).
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was quite possibly the best Spider-Man we have ever seen on film (sorry Tobey, you’ll always have a special place in my adolescent heart as my first favorite superhero actor).
Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out on July 7, 2017, and sees the return of Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
