With the release of the PS4 Pro, as well as the Xbox One S, more and more games are releasing patches to give their games HDR and 4K, but some are, well, lacking to say the least.
The most recent one of those games is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Ubisoft surprised fans when they released this patch that reportedly adds 4K to the games, but NeoGAF users with keen eyes have done some sleuthing to inspect just how 4K it really is.
What they have found is that it seems like the only true 4K in the update is the HUD, while the rest of the game is simply upscaled, likely through the “nearest neighbor” method, rather than something like bilinear scaling.
Regardless, most players probably won’t mind, as they didn’t buy the game ever thinking that they would be playing it in 4K. Rather than look at the disappointing nature of the update, look at the fact that developers are at least looking back at their old games and trying to improve them, even if the improvement is slight.
