A new guest for RTX Sydney 2017 has been announced, and it’s a big one. The one and only Hideo Kojima will be gracing our shores in February next year, to talk about his career in videogames, and – hopefully – shed a little more light on his upcoming projects (like the mysterious Death Stranding).
…and while we’re more than pleased with the news, we’re also a bit surprised. Last year’s inaugural RTX Australia was a bit of a mis-step – something the team are more than happy to acknowledge. Today’s announcement illustrates just how much things have changed – not just the new name!
Cameron Rooney, Co-Director of RTX Sydney tells Kotaku Australia that he is “thrilled” to host Kojima-san at the event.
You can’t go far in games culture before you learn Kojima-san’s name, and I know this is going to be an incredible experience for the fans coming to RTX.
It’s still early days, so we’re not sure just what Kojima-san will be getting up to at the event, besides one panel where he will be speaking alongside Greg Miller (from Kinda Funny Games) about “the future of game development and Mr. Kojima’s storied history as one of the medium’s greatest innovators”. Mark that one in your calendar!
RTX Sydney is set for February 4-5 2017 at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour. Tickets are available now (but following this announcement, the website promptly crashed).
Kojima-san joins Achievement Hunter Jack Pattillo and the Slow Mo Guys Gavin and Dan on the trip Down Under, as well as a whole stack of friendly faces from Rooster Teeth and Funhaus.
