With Blizzcon 2016 just days away a website slip up may have revealed something we’ll see a lot more of this Friday.
Eagle-eyed Redditor Kaiser499 spotted a new piece of art, seemingly intended for the weekend and it features a fan favourite class from Diablo II – The Necromancer.
If the Necromancer is added to Diablo 3 it would be only the second class added to the game, after the Reaper of Souls expansion brought us the Crusader. Diablo 2’s only expansion, Lord of Destruction, added two classes at once, the Assassin and Druid. With Diablo 3 continuing to be well supported with updates like Seasons it’s possible another expansion would do quite well, even more than four years after the initial release.
There are a few caveats to bear in mind. The original file name for the picture above included “fine art”, so it is possible this is merely a new piece of art gamers can purchase to adorn their walls. It could be concept art, related to the time earlier in Diablo 3’s development before the Witch Doctor was settled on as the “pets and poison” class. It might just be harking back to Diablo 2, though the inclusion of a female version of the character suggests otherwise.
… or it could be the first class revealed for Diablo 4.
One thing is for sure, a lot of fans would love to see the Necromancer return in some form. Zombie dogs are all well and good, but there’s nothing quite like a massive horde of skeletons throwing themselves at your enemies.
