Hold onto your hats, folks: The Last Guardian, first promised to us back in 2007, has just taken one massive step closer to being released. It feels like forever since we saw the trailer back at E3 2015 – and even longer since we found out the game was really happening – but now, it’s almost here.
As we all know, The Last Guardian is due to hit shelves in December (December 7, in Australia), and – if you were scared of a last-minute delay, Sony Interactive Entertainment head Shuhei Yoshida has some good news for you!
I’ve waited a very long time to say this… The Last Guardian has gone gold! I’m so excited for you all to finally experience it ˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖
Take a deep breath – this is really happening. The Last Guardian has already been classified by the Australian Board as PG (featuring “Mild fantasy themes and violence”), so it looks like all the boxes have been ticked.
Of course, there’s been one other game that “enjoyed” a drawn-out development period like this one. Duke Nukem Forever was first announced in 1997, went gold in May 2011 and arrived in June of that year to reviews that were… somewhat less than stellar. Will The Last Guardian live up to even half the hype?
I guess the big question now is, will it survive the hype train? The boiler is well-fed on years of delays and Sony has already been cooked to a cinder by a certain other game not meeting expectations. Even so, I have a good feeling about this one.
