The starstudded lineup behind Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has just gotten even more sparkly, with the announcement that British F1 champion Lewis Hamilton will also appear in the game. The driver appears alongside Game of Thrones Kit Harington and UFC fighter Conor McGregor in the upcoming futuristic FPS.
Hamilton – a long-time fan of the franchise – describes the role as “an absolute honour”:
The experience of being put into the game – from the facial scanning process to working with the team on the performance capture stage and just being able to meet the developers at the studio to get a glimpse at all the hard work that goes into the game – this has been an incredible experience.
Harington plays villain Admiral Salen Kotch and McGregor appears as Captain Bradley Fillion of the Settlement Defense Front. Hamilton looks sent for a smaller role – he appears as an engineer onboard the Retribution, one of the last remaining United Nations Space Alliance warships.
You’ll be able to see the Mercedes driver “at the beginning of the game”, we’re told.
Taylor Kurosaki, Narrative Director at Infinity Ward, is still a little starstruck:
Everyone at Infinity Ward was excited to work with Lewis since we’re all huge fans of his. He came to Call of Duty with the same approach he takes to the racetrack, determined to nail his performance – which he absolutely did!
This is not Hamilton’s first role in a video game – you can hear his dulcet tones in the game adaptation of Cars 2, where he plays himself. Meanwhile, we don’t know if the driver was given quite the star treatment that Kit Harington enjoyed – the actor’s scenes were looked after by fellow Brit, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launches around the world on November 4, for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
