Studio Ghibli’s TV Series, Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, will be headed to the West on the wings of Amazon Prime. The famed Japanese studio has officially signed the deal.
According to Kotaku, the series is directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro. It is an adaptation of a book by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, and began airing in Japan in 2014.
The plot centers around Ronia, a girl growing up with a clan of robbers, living in a castle in the woodlands. The only child of Matt, the chief, her future is to one day lead the clan.
Matt’s castle is split in two parts by a lightning bolt on the day of Ronia’s birth. Ronia grows up with Matt’s clan of robbers, until a rival robber clan led by Borka moves into the other half of the castle, causing a rivalry to flare.
The show will be available with an Amazon Prime membership in US, UK, Germany, Austria and Japan, and will be narrated in English by Gillian Anderson (X-Files).
