Indie darling Firewatch is headed to the big screen, and we’re not sure if we really want to see it. Developer Campo Santo has teamed up with Good Universe, and the pair are working together on both video games and feature films, with the Wyoming wilderness top of the list.
Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman told The Hollywood Reporter:
When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate and produce incredible stories. It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together.
Firewatch first hit our screens in February, and has sold more than a million copies since. Part of what made the game so special was the fact you never saw either of the game’s main characters – Henry (voiced by Rich Sommer from Mad Men) or his supervisor Delilah (The Walking Dead’s Cissy Jones). Playing through Henry’s eyes, you communicate with Delilah only via walkie-talkie, something we’re not sure will translate well to the film.
However, we’ve likely got a while to figure it out – there are no discussions of dates, cast, or story for the film. In the meantime, why not (re)visit Wyoming? Firewatch is out now on Xbox One as well as launch platforms PS4 and Windows PC – and all three versions are getting a nifty new free-roam mode real soon now. On the fence? check out our review!
