Ubisoft, creators of some of the best video games ever made, full of immersion and story like few other developers have achieved, is making… books?
I kid, I kid. I have always been a reader myself (Tolkien fans represent!), but it is interesting to see Ubisoft making the move.
The division will be known as Ubisoft Publishing and will publish books related to Ubisoft’s massive franchises, like Assassin’s Creed.
Assassin’s Creed: Heresy, expected to release on November 15th, is a novel that takes place in the Assassin’s Creed Universe “that interweaves the story of a modern-day Templar with a 14th-century narrative involving Joan of Arc”.
The novel is by Christie Golden, a writer who has delved into other geeky universes like Star Trek, Star Wars and World of Warcraft.
Ubisoft President Laurent Detoc said in a blog post:
With this team, we are owning creative control from initial concept to print, selecting the writers we work with, editing, artwork, the look and feel of the jacket, etc.
So now Assassin’s Creed is delving into the book and film world, with Assassin’s Creed the movie set to release on December 21st of this year.
