Hideo Kojima will never be able to truly disconnect himself from the Metal Gear franchise. He truly made his name with those games, and those games became so popular because of his immense talent for creation. Now that he is no longer making them, things seem to be going in a different direction, and he has spoken out about the newest game, Metal Gear Survive.
At Tokyo Game Show, Kojima was at a panel for his newest game, Death Stranding, the first game to come from his new studio, Kojima Productions. He was joined by Yoji Shinkawa, former character and mechanical designer for the Metal Gear series, who has joined Kojima Productions and is working on Death Stranding.
When Kojima was asked if he had any involvement in the creation of the latest Metal Gear game, Metal Gear Survive, his response was:
The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that?
Then when the same question was directed towards Shinkawa, he jokingly replied:
If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.
It is sad to see such an amazing developer separate from such an amazing franchise, but as progress must continually occur, so must the changes with which it can be bred.
Metal Gear Survive is set for release in 2017.
Death Stranding will release maybe sometime in 2018, but there has been no official announcement, other than some hints from Kojima.
