Steam Weekly Top Sellers: September 19th, 2016

Each week, gamers around the world log onto digital distribution platform Steam, to get their latest gaming fix, and every week, Player Attack lets you know which games were the most popular.

Dinosaurs are still rampaging at the top of the charts this week, with the Scorched Earth expansion dragging the original ARK up with it in a glorious celebration of prehistoric survival. I’m not sure what it is about this new expansion that’s driving sales – is it the new world? The new craftable items? The new challenges? Perhaps it’s the dragons… who knows?

It’s also worth taking a look at this week’s #9 game, RimWorld, which I keep thinking is a Terry Pratchett adaptation but is actually a sci-fi colony sim inspired by projects as diverse as Dwarf Fortress and Firefly. The game’s “intelligent AI storyteller” generates stories by simulating “psychology, ecology, gunplay, melee combat, climate, biomes, diplomacy, interpersonal relationships, art, medicine, trade, and more” – and it’s available now via Early Access, if you want to get your feet wet.

#1 – ARK: Scorched Earth – Expansion Pack
Stranded naked, dehydrated & starving in a vast desert, even the most seasoned ARK survivors must quickly find water, hunt for food, harvest, craft items, and build shelter to have any chance for survival. Use skills honed on ARK’s faraway Island to kill, tame, breed, and ride the fantastical new creatures that have evolved to survive the Desert’s ultra harsh conditions, including… DRAGONS! Travel back and forth between the Island and the Desert to team up with hundreds of players across both worlds or play locally!
