It looks like another video game franchise is making the leap to the big screen. Announced at Tokyo Game Show, a Monster Hunter live-action film is in the works.
The news was announced by Capcom’s Ryozo Tsujimoto at Tokyo Game Show.
Not many details have been released at this time, but we do that while the film does not relate to Monster Hunter Stories, there is a Hollywood adaptation in progress.
Monster Hunter Stories is the next game in the franchise, set for release in Japan on October 8th. In the game, players take control of a “Rider,” instead of a Hunter. The game could be looked at as Monster Hunter’s Wind Waker, as the game features a much more cartoon-like animation style.
The news comes the same day as the announcement of another Capcom franchise paving a new path for itself in film. Resident Evil is getting an animated film, titled Resident Evil: Vendetta, and of course there are the live-action Resident Evil films, of which the final one is set for release on January 27th of next year.
I have very fond memories of playing Monster Hunter on the bus with my friends in middle school, working together to take down massive beasts.
