…I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but here we are again, and I’m just going to rip of the band-aid quick and get it over with. The Last Guardian has been delayed, by “a few weeks”. You’ll still get it before Christmas, but not by much.
And before you can wishful-think your way out of this, the news came directly from PlayStation President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida. He describes the “tough decision” from the development team, and lays out the new date as December 7 across Europe and Australia, and December 9 in the UK and Ireland.
A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.
Yoshida explains that Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a “wonderful vision” for the game, describing The Last Guardian as a “touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust”. He – and the team – are devastated at upsetting the fans who have supported them “for so long”, but say this is a necessary decision to make.
Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content towards the launch.
So. The Last Guardian, after all that, will launch on PlayStation 4 from December 7… we hope.
