It is now known that Super Mario Run, Mario’s first adventure on a phone, will not be coming to Android in 2016.
Shigeru Miyamoto surprised us all as he appeared towards the beginning of Apple’s September 7th event. He came out to great fanfare and, through a translator, announced Super Mario Run, a side-scrolling continuous runner based on collecting as many coins as possible and getting to the flagpole at the end of the level.
Of course, he did not talk about whether or not the game would come to Android, let alone a prospective release date.
Now, however, he has.
Speaking to IGN, Miyamoto said:
“For us, the stability of the iOS platform was important in choosing iPhones for the game”
He went on to say that the game will definitely come to Android, but not this year.
For iOS users, Super Mario Run will be released in December of 2016 on iPhone and iPad for a set price, with Miyamoto saying that users will not have to pay any more after the initial purchase.
