During the Apple Event today, Nintendo announced its newest foray into mobile gaming, Super Mario Run.
The world was surprised as Tim Cook called out Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, to announce a new partnership between Nintendo and Apple.
Super Mario Run is a continuous, side-scrolling runner in which the goal is to collect as many coins as possible and get to the flag at the end of the level as quickly as possible.
There is also a multiplayer game mode called Toad Rally in which players will compete against their friends and other players around the world in attempting to get the highest score on levels.
The objective is to collect as many coins as possible and impress the toads that appear when the player attempts a daring move. The game mode has no ending flag, but instead has a time limit.
The game will have a set price and no microtransactions, and will be released in the Holiday season of 2016.
Mario fans can also look forward to a set of Mario stickers released alongside iOS 10.
It’s exciting to see mobile gaming becoming more serious amongst major developers like Nintendo.
