The PlayStation 4 Slim, along with Project Neo, are expected to be announced by Sony at their September 7th PlayStation event in New York; however, some PS4 Slims have already found their way into the hands of consumers, and now we think we know how.
A report by MCV states that some retailers in the United Arab Emirates had a small supply of PlayStation 4 Slim consoles shipped to them, and that the retailers were to hold the systems until their official release. However, some of those retailers already began to sell the systems, mainly on eBay. Also, second-hand retailer CEX began to sell them as well, at the cost of 380 pounds, and offered to buy them for 304 pounds.
One leading retail buyer said, “You have to feel sorry for PlayStation, because it’s all descended into an absolute farce.”
Another said, “We didn’t even realize this was coming out until it was available to buy online. We’ve seen early selling before, but nothing quite like this.”
Sony has been looking into expanding further into the Middle East, but after this chaos, we can probably expect them to reign in their expansion, or at least keep a much more watchful eye. However, this leak has garnered a rather massive media covering, and I’m sure PlayStation doesn’t mind the extra press it has received for its upcoming event on the 7th of September.
