The beta is available for free via a download on Xbox One, PlayStation4 and PC. It features the Sinai Desert map, Conquest mode and the new Rush-type mode.

A PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to play on PS4, but a Gold membership is required to play on Xbox.

Your progress in the beta will not be saved, but there is some incentive to play. Players who play for four or more days and reach level 15 will earn an exclusive dog tag in the full game.

It is not known quite when the beta will end, so its best to play sooner rather than late if you’re interested.

Battlefield 1 is set during World War I and features a lot more melee combat than the previous games due to the trench warfare of WWI. Despite its name, it is the fourteenth installment in the Battlefield franchise, following Battlefield 4 which was released in 2013.

Battlefield 1 is set for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 21.
