PSN adds 2-Step Verification

PSN Members will now enjoy the security of 2-step verification as it makes its way into the system.

Sony has added this feature because:

Passwords can be compromised if you use the same password for multiple accounts, click on malicious links, open phishing emails and other methods. If your password is compromised and becomes known to someone other than yourself, your account will still require a verification code to gain access when you activate 2-Step Verification.

The feature is entirely optional. If you don’t feel like using it, you don’t have to, but it is a good idea for anyone who has their debit or credit cards saved on the network. It can definitely save a good bit a frustration if your information ever got stolen.

The feature works by sending a code to your cell phone when you attempt to log in to the network. You then will input the code and voila, you’re in.

You can activate 2 step-verification here, or go to the support page about it here to learn more.
