Niantic has confirmed that the team is still hard at work on Pokémon Go, rolling out a fairly major update to the smartphone game. Version 0.35.0 (on iOS) or 1.5.0 (on Android) brings an all-new feature to the game, and it’s one that involves your mysterious team leaders.
Included in the update is a new Pokémon Appraisal tool, so you won’t just have to rely on CP to know how strong your Pokémon really are.
Blanche, Candela and Spark have re-joined the game to analyse each of your pocket monsters, marking the trio’s first in-game appearance since their portraits were revealed at San Diego Comic Con. Which one you’ll chat to depends on which team you chose – Mystic, Valor or Instinct – and you’ll find the option tucked away on the individual Pokémon info pages you can find while checking out what’s in your bag.
Here’s the patchnotes:
- Implemented Pokémon Appraisal: Trainers will now be able to learn about a Pokémon’s attack and defense capabilities from their Team Leader (Candela, Blanche or Spark) to determine which of their Pokémon have the most potential for battle
- We are still working hard on several new and exciting features to come in the future of Pokémon Go
- Minor bot fixes
Now – if you’re already familiar with the idea of IV, have your favourite calculator bookmarked and know which Pokémon to upgrade (and when), the information offered by the team leaders might not be specific enough for you. It does, however, give a better sense of what’s going on, compared to the initial game.
Sure, it’s not the return of the footsteps tracking system. It’s not the global rollout of the “Sightings” menu. It’s not a way to stop those damn Pidgeys from avoiding all your Pokéballs and then running away. But it’s nice. And hopefully those changes – plus “several new and exciting features” – aren’t too far off.
