In a flurry of nerfing and buffing characters, launching the Summer Olympics and preparing for the end of the first competitive season, the guys at Blizzard have revealed their first post-launch map at Gamescom 2016.
The new assault/escort map named Eichenwalde (pronounced Eye-ken-vahld, according to r/Overwatch), has a very distinct German medieval setting and the launch trailer shows off the beautiful surroundings that players will battle in. Eichenwalde plays an important part of the Overwatch lore and it’s exciting to see Blizzard developing more on their story, which seems to fall to the wayside.
The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the Omnic offensive and win the fight.
No official launch date has been announced for the new map, so stay tuned to find out when you’ll be able to storm this new map.
