A few odd social media posts have popped up suggesting that Telltale Games is working on something to do with Mr. Robot, and fans of the tv series are frothing at the mouth.

The first teaser came from ecorpmessaging, seemingly referencing a new mobile app due out next week.

*.apk is the file format used by Android apps, while *.ipa is the one used by Apple, so it looks like “eps1.51_exfiltrati0n” will have something to do with this project released on August 17th… hinting that it might not be the simple “messenger” app the first video referred to.
August 17 is the date that eps2.5_h4ndshake.sme will air in the US (the *.sme exptension refers to AMD’s Secure Memory Encryption, by the way). That episode may also shed some light on this mysterious new smartphone app – but in the meantime, we’ll be keeping an eye out on social media to see what else pops up.
One theory suggests that it is an episodic release that will fit in between the two seasons of the show (hence 1.5), with other people hoping for a game similar in style to Lifeline, where someone uses a messaging app to communicate with the player. It would perfectly suit the cybercrime theme of the show, and we’ve already seen that formula work very nicely as a smartphone game (particularly with Apple Watch support). Telltale is likely involved as publisher, rather than developer, with Night School doing the creative work.
If nothing else, it sounds like I’ve got about a week to catch up on a season and a half worth of shows. It’s been on my To-Watch list since, oh, this time last year, so now’s as good a time as any!
