It’s time for a rematch! The League of Legends Oceanic Pro League Grand Final hits Brisbane this weekend, and the region’s biggest rivals are facing off once again to determine who is the best. Will Chiefs make it two for two, or will the team from Legacy get their redemption?
In what promises to be the biggest eSports event to ever hit Brisbane, everything kicks off this Saturday, August 13, at the Courier-Mail Piazza. The teams face off in the Grand Final from 5:30pm AEST, but there’s all sorts of things to get up to on the day as well.
Legacy are certainly the underdogs here – they’ve not held a title since their fifth game victory over The Chiefs in 2014. Now they’re hungry for more, and ready to make up for their narrow loss in Split 1.
Chiefs, on the other hand, have won the previous three splits and continue to be one of the best teams on the circuit, taking out the best-of-5 Semi Final without dropping a game.
However! Chiefs did lose to Legacy in Week 6 of this split, so it’s not as one-sided as you might think. This season has been the tightest competition in Oceanic history, with the final looking like more of the same.
If you want to watch, you’ve got a few options. Tickets for the final at the Courier-Mail Piazza have sold out, but you’re still invited to the pre-event festivities from 2pm AEST. There’s a pro-player dunk tank, pro-player signings, green screen photos, a merch store, photo opportunities and a community stage, which will play host to some of Oceania’s best League of Legends cosplayers.
Alternatively, thanks to a deal with HOYTS cinemas, you can watch all the action on the big screen, at cinemas across Australia and New Zealand.
