Buckle up Death Note fans, because things just got awesome.
Willem Defoe has joined the cast of Netlix’s live-action adaptation of Death Note, according to Mashable. Whilst still in the midst of filming for Justice League, he has agreed to provide the voice of the magical Shinigami. It will be directed by Adam Wingard, who is also the director of this year’s Blair Witch.
Other actors appearing in the film are Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) as Light Turner, Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton, Short Term 12) as L, Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) as Mia Sutton, Paul Nakauchi (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Watari and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) as James Turner.
The film is also being produced by actor Masi Oka (Heroes), Viz Productions’ Jason Hoffs (Edge of Tomorrow), Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (The Lego Movie) and Lin Pictures’ Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes). Doug Davidson (The Grudge), and Brian Witten (Final Destination) are executive producers.
Excitement is building as we await the release next year. Judging by the cast and crew behind it, I’ll bet that the film is going to be amazing. As far as accuracy towards the actual manga and anime go, we will just have to wait and see.
