When folk talk about the best fighting games ever made, a few titles will readily top many lists. I’m talking about the likes of your Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, hell, I’ll even accept Super Smash Bros. Melee! But one of my personal favorites, that should be on everyone’s list, is the cult Neo Geo hit, Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
So, why am I talking about Garou? Well, I’m assuming you clicked the article title, so you’ve already got the heads up but SNK are releasing a port of the game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, with the help of Sony’s third-party productions team.
Sony’s Gio Corsi announced the re-release of the classic fighter at a panel during Evo 2016 over the weekend. An early version of game was also made available to play by attendees.
Originally hitting Neo Geo arcade cabs in 1999, Garou: Mark of the Wolves has been ported to a few different systems since its initial release, ranging from the Dreamcast to Android and iOS. That said, Garou still manages to top the list as SNK’s title most requested for a re-release by fans, Corsi said.
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the port and if it will remain unadulterated or receive a modern re-touching. But rest assured, I will enthusiastically mash my keyboard when further details become made available.
