Each week, gamers around the world log onto digital distribution platform Steam, to get their latest gaming fix, and every week, Player Attack lets you know which games were the most popular.
This weekend, I took a walk down Artist’s Alley at AVCon to check out some of the arts and crafts that were on show as part of Adelaide’s anime and video game festival. Of course, there were a lot of bits and pieces celebrating Pokémon Go (so. many. team. badges!), but dotted around among the various pocket monsters were an assortment of other game-related bits and pieces. I saw DOTA-inspired cross-stitch, contemplated a knitted Triforce scarf and fell in love with a cartoon-style Overwatch print, but tucked away on one table was something slightly incongruous – a set of three Grand Theft Auto modified book prints. If I had space on my walls for these three colourful artworks (printed in bright ink on vintage encyclopaedia pages), I’d have snapped them up in a moment, but – alas – I had to settle for picking up a business card and promising myself to return.
There were more than a few DOOM shirts wandering around the convention, I saw a couple of Geralts and vault dwellers stalking the halls, and there was certainly plenty of Rocket League being played in the gaming area. Didn’t see any CS:GO fanart, though – maybe that’s a gap in the market!
