Each week, gamers around the world log onto digital distribution platform Steam, to get their latest gaming fix, and every week, Player Attack lets you know which games were the most popular.
This is the first time we’ve seen Dead by Daylight pop up on the best-seller list, and with good reason. The new one from Starbreeze was only released on June 14th, and it’s taken fans a little while to come around to its particular brand of terrifying 4v1 action.
Unlike many asymmetrical multiplayer games, Dead by Daylight offers different perspectives depending on whether you’re playing as a Survivor (third person, better situational awareness) or as the Killer (first-person, more focussed on prey). This adds an extra level of complexity to the game, which is essentially a kill-or-be-killed experience. Survivors must escape the Killing Ground without getting caught… and The Killer’s must catch them. Sounds simple enough, but there’s a few challenges thrown into the mix – not the least of which is a different environment every time you play.
If this sounds a bit like a classic movie franchise to you, you’re not the only one to pick up on the similarities. It’s been heavily compared to a Friday the 13th video game – and we are certainly not complaining.
