Fable Fortune fails at crowdfunding, gets real funding instead

We’re not sure whether that Fable collectible card game has suffered another setback, or been given a last-minute reprieve. On one hand, the project’s crowdfunding campaign has been cancelled… but the studio no longer needs it thanks to the injection of outside funding.

It’s interesting to note that the game’s Kickstarter campaign had gotten awful close to deadline with just £58,000 in pledges before it was axed – well below the £250,000 that Flaming Fowl Studios were asking for.

But let’s look on the bright side! A kindly (unnamed) benefactor has given Flaming Fowl a stack of cash, which means we get the game anyway!

Details are revealed in a new Kickstarter update:

With the immediate future of Fable Fortune now secure, we have taken the decision to end our Kickstarter campaign early to focus on releasing a Closed Beta build as quickly as possible. As we’ve always stated, we want to make this game with your help, your feedback and your input. We have huge plans for Fortune and we know that whatever happens in the future, it all started with our already incredible community.

If you were among the 1500 Kickstarter backers, you won’t miss out on your hipster status. All backers get to keep their money (obviously), and are also being given Alpha build access before being invited into the closed beta. This means the would-be backers are still the first in the world to get their hands on Fable Fortune as it progresses.

That said, if you want in on this, go sign up for the closed beta, and keep an eye on Steam.

It’s okay if you’re a little skeptical, the team at Flaming Fowl made a big deal about heading to Kickstarter because they wanted to remain 100% independent – “We want to make decisions based on the pride of our work, not because someone with a cheque book says so”. Let’s just hope this new cheque book shares their dreams and ambitions!
