PAC-MAN 256 threw everybody’s favourite yellow 80s icon into an all-new experience – an endless maze, where you had to keep moving to avoid not only ghosts but also the terrifying 256 glitch. It was frantic enough on mobile devices, but the Australian dev team at Hipster Whale and 3 Sprockets have really upped the anxiety, by announcing PAC-MAN 256 for home PC and console, landing next month.
Seon Rozenblum, Director at 3 Sprockets explains:
We have really enjoyed working with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and Hipster Whale on PAC-MAN 256 for mobile, and having the opportunity to ship it on the latest generation of consoles and PC is the icing on the cake for us! We can’t wait to see how much fun players have with it!
Chomping his way onto PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC (via Steam) from June 21, PAC-MAN 256 celebrates the character’s 36th anniversary and brings some new features to the party. There’s the usual social sharing functionality, as well as ten themes automatically unlocked and – wait for it – multiplayer.
Benjamin Prénom, Project Owner at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe S.A.S continues:
We wanted everyone to enjoy PAC-MAN 256, so it was a logical decision to make it available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The brand new local multiplayer mode, exclusive to the console and pc version, makes it even more accessible: get ready for maximum fun playing up to 4 players at the same time!
The multiplayer is local and co-op, so up to four people can work together to eat all the Pac-Dots and Power Pellets, as well as defeating the fearsome foursome: Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde.
…plus there are all the usual power-ups to collect and that horrific 256 Glitch is back, too.
You’ll be able to snag a copy of PAC-MAN 256 via Steam, PlayStation Network and the Xbox Games Store from June 21, for a suggested price of €4,99 (that will, obviously, change by region). For more information – or for a few more fun, festive activities – head to the PAC-MAN community page!
