One of Australia’s largest gaming events takes the stage this weekend – it’s time for Battle Arena Melbourne 8! Head to CQ Functions across the weekend of May 13-15 to enjoy some of the country’s most exciting fighting games: A Capcom Pro Tour Ranking event and international Smash Bros destination! There’s a prize pool of more than $25,000, and a chance to be sent to South Korea – signups for some events are still open… better be quick!
This annual National Major event celebrates the Australian fighting game scene, with gamers from around the country – and the world – returning once again to Melbourne.
Two of those international guests – champions RZR.Xian and EG.Momochi – are taking part in the event’s Street Fighter V Capcom Pro Tour event. Remember, this is a Capcom Pro Tour Ranking event – the Street Fighter V winner will be sponsored with travel and accommodation to the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour Asia final in South Korea. The winner of that event will qualify for the Capcom Cup Finals!
There’s also a Dead Or Alive Battle Royal that’s free to enter. The winner takes home a share of a $1,000 prize pool as well as sponsored travel and accommodation to the Battle Royal finals at NEC in the USA.
Bandai Namco has also thrown in a $1,000 prize pool for Tekken 7 – play it before it comes home!
…and for a one-of-a-kind souvenir, meet up with Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz, artist for the official Street Fighter comics from Udon. He’ll be signing comics, and providing two artworks for the BAM prize pool, as well as sketching headshot commissions for lucky fans.
In 2015, BAM7 saw 628 attendees play and watch some incredible moments. BAM8 in 2016 looks set to overtake that benchmark, with 574 registered players signing up during the early registration period, and even more expected to join in on the day. (Note: Smash competitor signups have closed, and Street Fighter V signups close on Friday.)
To recap: May 13-15, at CQ Functions, 123 Queen Street, Melbourne. Miss it, and you’ll have to wait a whole year.
