If you rushed out immediately and pre-ordered an Oculus Rift VR headset back in January, you’ve actually made things more difficult for yourself, as the manufacturer has buckled under the pressure.
The hardware was supposed to start shipping on March 28, but many customers are yet to see their new gadgets. Turns out that the overwhelming demand for the headsets actually caused a component shortage at the factory that builds them, prompting a bit of a delay.
Now, instead of shipping on March 28, Rift headsets should start shipping from April 12 (that’s the best estimate from Oculus, anyway).
To apologise for the delay, Oculus is offering free shipping on all orders placed prior to April 2, saving early adopters around $50-$100 (US$).
On the other hand, if you haven’t yet ordered your hardware, ordering today should see your new Rift VR headset arrive in July.
