Each week, gamers around the world log onto digital distribution platform Steam, to get their latest gaming fix, and every week, Player Attack lets you know which games were the most popular.
Put simply, I am delighted with this week’s #1. I haven’t yet had a chance to play much Stardew Valley, but what I have has been good fun. That said, a friend has written it off as being a bit like the “Yardwork Simulator” referenced in The Simpsons. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done to polish up your grandfather’s old farm, but beyond that, there’s some pretty lovely content tucked away.
It’s particularly nice to see a game like this topping the charts above The Division, Far Cry, Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider – not that they’re not all great games, but because the team at Concerned Ape is so tiny compared to the major AAA efforts. Released at the end of February, it’s already netted nearly 10,000 reviews, and the trend has been “Overwhelmingly Positive“. That’s a bit nice, isn’t it!

You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?
