Apparently the Thief movie is still happening, adds new producers

Pretend to be excited, the Thief film adaptation is still in the works, with the rights to the project recently having changed hands, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The screenwriting team taking on the project is Simon Boyes (Misconduct, Not Safe for Work) and Adam Mason. The duo will be penning the script for Straight Up Films, whom acquired the rights to the franchise recently.

The Hollywood Reporter does nothing to dissuade my sarcastic opening, reporting that the film’s premise is a rather stock narrative: “a master thief tries to restore freedom, which has been denied by a magic-wielding tyrant.”

The rumblings of a Thief movie first surfaced in 2014, when Roy Lee and Adrian Askarah, the producers responsible for 2007s Hitman adaptation, were said to be on board. Lee and Askarah are still signed on to the project and are being joined by Marisa Polvino and Kate Cohen.

Thief, once a revolutionary series under Looking Glass Studios, has been around for nearly 20 years; with the latest installment being extremely poorly received.
