HTC Vive VR headset priced at $799

HTC and Valve’s VR headset endeavor, Vive, has an official price of this morning.

The unit is priced at $799 (USD) and is still expected to release “early April”, according to a press release from the mobile phone manufacturer.

The price not only includes the actual headset but also bundles two Vive touch controllers and the two wireless Lightroom sensor boxes:

Vive will be delivered as a complete kit allowing users to instantly jump into a fully immersive virtual environment using two wireless controllers, 360 degree tracking and room scale movement sensors

To sweeten the pot further, for a limited time, those that purchase the unit will also receive Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption.

Pre-orders open at 10:00am ET on February 29, according to the Vive blog.

The Vive is the second VR headset darling to hit the market, following the Oculus and getting in ahead of Sony’s PlayStation VR.

The Oculus, which has a price tag of $599 (USD), launches in March; with pre-orders selling in out in a matter of hours after the announcement. The Oculus comes as a base headset only though, with no bundled controllers or peripheries.

PlayStation is yet to announce a price or a more precise release window, with the company stating “this year.”
