David Gaider, former writer at the prolific game studio Bioware, has joined studio Beamdog as its new creative director, according to a blog post by the company.

Gaider originally applied for a senior writer position that was available at Beamdog but the company thought him better suited to a directorial role, due in part to his years of experience. Being named creator director will see Gaider helming the writing team on all the studio’s future projects.

Gaider’s writing credits include some indisputable classics, including Baldur’s Gate 2Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the entirety of the Dragon Age series.

It just so happens that Beamdog are best known for the enhanced edition releases of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2, which was definitely a factor in Gaider’s move from Bioware.

“I recall my days working on Baldur’s Gate 2 and the Throne of Bhaal expansion very fondly,” Gaider stated in a press release. “Thus when the opportunity arose to become creative director for a company which lives and breathes that style of gaming, how could I refuse?”

Beamdog is also currently developing a new Balder’s Gate game. Revealed to be Siege of Dragonspear, the game will take place in-between the first two Baldur’s Gate titles; and will release as an expansion to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.
