Pirate group 3DM doing social experiment, “will not crack any single-player games” for a year

Okay, so calling it a social experiment is probably giving the pirating forum more credence than they deserve. That aside, 3DM plans to not crack any single player games for a year and assess what impact this has on the PC market.

“We just had an internal meeting. Starting at the Chinese New Year, 3DM will not crack any single-player games,” said forum member Bird Sister, reports torrentfreak.

“We’ll take a look at the situation in a year’s time to see if genuine sales have grown.”

So, the experiment seems to want to observe if there is a correlation between the lack of available pirated games and the legitimate sales of said games. Now, I haven’t done stats 101 for a while but this seems like a no brainer.

Some are speculating that this move actually stems from the pirate community struggling with cracking the Denuvo copy protection found in recent releases like Just Cause 3. This struggle lead the community to lament the future of games piracy, stating “there will [soon] be no free games to play in the world.”
