Star Wars: Episode VIII delayed until December 2017

Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release in summer 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017; according to Disney and Lucasfilm.

Fans need not wait to long for more action from a galaxy,far, far away as Rogue One, the first Star Wars anthology movie, will premiere December 16 of this year.

Not much is know about Rogue One as of yet, other than it will be set between the happenings of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and IV: A New Hope, and will follows the group of Rebel Alliance fighters responsible for stealing the plans for the first Death Star.

Episode VIII’s new release date will see it direct competition with James Cameron’s Avatar sequel and Stephen Spielberg’s Ready Player One, which are both slated for a December 2017 release.

Episode VIII, which is being directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), will see the return of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and other cast members from The Force Awakens. The final installment in the new sequel trilogy, which is being directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), is expected to be released sometime in 2019.
