ESPN caves and launches eSports vertical on homepage

Sports media juggernaut ESPN has launched an eSports vertical on their homepage.

This is a great boost and affirmation for eSports’, as president of ESPN John Skipper once adamantly stated that video games “aren’t a real sport”; an opinion of which I am inĀ agreement but that’s a story for a different day.

Cynically, I’m inclined to believe this shift in perspective comes from the profitability of the ‘sport’, with ESPN putting a surprising amount of resources into it’s newly founded eSport coverage.

An example of video games breaking through the ceiling of organised sport- with ESPN’s support- is thatĀ Halo 5 will be featured at the upcoming X Games this month.
