Pokémon 20th Anniversary 3DS bundle announced, Pokemon Blue, Red, Yellow pre-loaded

Pokémon, the franchise revolving around around trapping cute animals and getting them to duke it out for cash and accolades, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year; and I couldn’t be more excited!

Goodbye money...

Goodbye money…

The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have a plethora of merchandise and products set to release on February 27  to capitalize celebrate this milestone, specifically the Pokémon 20th Anniversary New 3DS bundle. The New 3DS handheld bundle includes two cover plates, one featuring Blastoise and the other Charizard, and the unit comes with  Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow pre-installed. It also includes a download code for a new Pokémon menu theme, because why not!

On the same day, Nintendo are also releasing three new Pokémon themed Nintendo 2DS Special Edition bundles. Called the Special Pikachu Edition, these bundles include a Nintendo 2DS system in either transparent red, blue or yellow and will come pre-installed with either Red, Blue and Yellow. These bundles are aimed to tug on the nostalgia strings and feature classic packaging reminiscent of the original Game Boy games; which I kind of dig.

The European- and possibly the Australian- release is slightly different, with the cover plates being Super Mystery Dungeon and series-themed instead of featuring the iconic first generation juggernauts.

Suck it Europe...oh wait.

Suck it Europe…oh wait.

Suck it again Europe…oh wait.

On top of the 3DS bundle, Nintendo will be making various legendary Pokémon available for owners of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Pokemon X or Pokemon Y. In North America it will be handled via in store downloads at GameStop, and in Europe the Pokémon will be “distributed via various methods.”

If that wasn’t enough, various retailers will also be stocking new amiibo’s such as Charizard, Greninja, Jigglypuff, Lucario and Pikachu.

If Pokémon is your particular brand of video game crack,  then let me be your enabler and direct you to the Pokémon official anniversary website, which has even more details on anniversary themed items!
