Looks like that Assassin’s Creed movie is progressing rather well, even though everyone involved has been keeping things firmly under wraps… until now. Ubisoft has officially released a handful of photos not just of the film set, but of the movie itself, including Michael Fassbender and Ariane Labed in full costume.
Filming has been taking place in London, Malta and Spain, but remember this one isn’t following the storyline (or characters!) of any specific Assassin’s Creed game. Instead, Fassbender plays two roles in the upcoming film – both as modern-day resident Callum Lynch, but also as his 15th-century ancestor, Spanish Assassin Aguilar.
Sammy Sheldon Differ, the film’s costume designer, explains:
I have much respect for the historical accuracy and vast characterization represented in each game. This has been a fantastic starting point to understand what is needed to be faithful to the artistic content and begin creating our film world. Bearing in mind this rich base, I have used our period of 15h century Spain, with its strong influences of Moorish deco, to give the Assassin’s looks a nomadic warrior personification.
For the record, priests in cells in movies are usually a sure sign of doom. Be sure to check out the full-sized image for a better look at the wall graffiti.
Assassin’s Creed hits US cinemas on December 21, we’re hoping for a synchronised international release.
