Pillars of Eternity, Rise of the Tomb Raider nominated for outstanding writing

The annual Writers Guild Awards will be held on February 13, and – just like every year – there’s a special category just for video games. This year, there are four nominations, including the latest titles from three major franchises, and a Little Indie That Could.

2015 was a good year for RPGs, with both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity releasing within just a few months of each other, and Rhianna Pratchett’s return to Lara Croft sees Rise of the Tomb Raider get a nod. That said, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate continues the tradition of that particular series being nominated for great writing (Revelations was nominated in 2012, Black Flag in 2014, both Freedom Cry and Unity in 2015, and Vita title Liberation actually won in 2013, when it convincingly beat its console counterpart).

To be eligible for the WGA Videogame Writing Award, a game must have been published in the previous year (between December 1 and November 30, 2015), feature an on-screen writing credit, and the credited writers must be (or must have applied to be) members of the WGA Videogame Writers Caucus at the time the scripts were submitted.

The official judging panel is made up of Videogame Writers Caucus members and/or Writers Guild members who happen to be active in videogame writing.
