The juggernaut that is Five Nights at Freddy’s continues to roll on, with developer Scott Cawthon now announcing a book based on the horror series. Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes will be out by Christmas, with a promised launch date of December 22.
The cover image is hosted on Cawthon’s official website, with the filename suggesting it’s a full novel rather than a quick read. One version of the image was labelled as “Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Untold Story”, but that’s since been replaced with the new (much more mysterious) subtitle, The Silver Eyes.
The website’s source code makes reference to the book “Coming soon to Amazon Kindle”, but Cawthon is quick to point out that you don’t need a Kindle to read it – the Kindle App works on iPhone, Android and home PC. More exciting than that, though: The book is coming to stores in real, physical, hardback form some time in 2016.
This is not something recent; I’ve been working alongside a professional writer for the last ten months crafting this story, and I’m very excited about the finished product. It expands the mythos and reveals a human element never before seen in the games.
The community is already hoping for certain things to be revealed among the pages of The Silver Eyes – did Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 take place in 1987 or 1983? Who is the Purple Man? Is the whole series really a strange coma-dream from an injured child? Did you notice the three animatronics lurking in the background of the book cover?
Whatever’s going on, if you’re a fan of Freddy Fazbear and his associates, and are looking for a little light reading material over the holidays, this sounds like it could fill the gap. Here’s hoping it’s as scare-tastic as the games!
